A 61-year-old woman, who is serving time in federal prison for her
actions with the Symbionese Liberation Army in the 1970's, has been
named in court papers tied to raids before the Republican National
Convention in St. Paul.
On Monday, a police search warrant filed in Ramsey County shows that
Sara Jane Olson, also known as Kathleen Ann Soliah, was listed as
co-owner of the Arise Bookstore in Minneapolis.
A St. Paul Police Special Investigations Unit officer made the
discovery while investigating the other owner of the store,
60-year-old Michael Philip Whalen.
Police accuse Whalen of posting calls to action of unlawful
activities including violence to law enforcement officers and
destruction of property. Investigators said they observed specific
postings related to the RNC that were clear calls to violence.
Whalen supported Olson on his website and advocated direct action
against police during the convention, according to authorities.
5 EYEWITNESS NEWS talked to Whalen Monday evening. He said he owns
the building the bookstore is located in, however Olson does not own
the shop and hasn't been involved with it for years.
Olson pled guilty to two counts of possessing explosives with intent
to murder for an incident in 1975 in which she and others robbed a
bank and killed a woman as representatives of the Symbionese Liberation Army.
She is currently in prison awaiting release on parole next year.
